Entry #8. Building Blocks

What is Mechanical Engineering? | Live Science

For todays topic I will be discussing a field I am very interested in and hope to one day make my career, mechanical engineering. I will explain what mechanical engineering is and give some examples on what people in this profession can accomplish. But first to achieve this is no easy task, it is a long hard road that many people try to walk down and don't pull through. This career path revolves around mathematics and physics. As an engineer you must learn how to use different materials, how to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is said to be one of the oldest and most broad branches of engineering but to me this means there are more options and opportunities to be found. Some more examples of the projects mechanical engineers take on are building power-producing machines. Such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines, as well as power-producing machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Mechanical engineers also design other machines inside buildings such as elevators and escalators. These are just a small part of what it means to be an engineer in this field and it is what excites me the most. I plan to one day become an engineer that can build and manufacture many of these items, but one thing in particular that I have not mentioned yet that is high up on the list is a vehicle motor. One day I would love to have the opportunity to design a motor from scratch and make it a reality. Well that is all for today, see you on the next one!
