Entry #6. Is Coffee Healthy?

Hello and welcome back to my blog. Todays topic will be about the pros and cons of drinking coffee. Most adults in the United States start their days off with coffee, you could almost say they are dependent to a certain degree. According to studies done by Harvard University, adults in the United States consume an average of 135 mg of caffeine a day, this comes out to about one and a half cups of coffee. If you are an avid coffee drinker do you remember the last time you went a whole week without a cup of Joe?
To start it off lets discuss the pros of coffee and how it can benefit you daily. Coffee is know to be rich is antioxidants which can ultimately relieve stress in your body's cells, this type of stress in your body's cells is the culprit behind many chronic diseases. According to the American Heart Association the risk of heart attack fell by 5-12% per cup of coffee a day. It allows the heart to pump stronger but is only viable without all the added sugar and fat. Coffee can also help prevent liver disease, Type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
Now onto some cons of consuming coffee, these are not applicable to everyone and don't happen every time you consume coffee but it can happen. To prevent some of these drawbacks try not to consume over 400 mg of caffeine per day. Coffee can be known to cause headaches, anxiety, jitters, and the disruption of sleep. Coffee can also cause high blood pressure, heart palpitations, low iron absorption, chest pains, digestive issues, tooth decay, and finally addiction and withdraw. Now I know this all sounds scary and may remind you of the end of a medication commercial, but these are extreme circumstances and only occur with over indulgence.
The moral of todays story is too much of any good thing can have drawbacks. Always remember to stay in the recommended guidelines when indulging in any substance, or problems may occur. That's all for todays post, see you on the next one!
I can attest to some of the negative consequences of drinking too much coffee. Interestingly enough, many of us who are dependent on this caffeine kick, struggle to accept that it has harmful effects. Thankfully enough, reading enough about the facts can help us recognize and accept the truth before it's too late.
