Entry #7. The Hashtag

Hashtags are used to describe and index key words/topics. Originally introduced on the social media giant known as twitter, hashtags have now become the norm across all social media platforms and is here to stay. For me personally, hashtags are not important as I don't post on social media often. On the other hand for an online influencer using hashtags is a key way to gain more traction on each post. Using a plethora of different hashtags on a single post will boost the amount of people who can see what is attempting to be shared exponentially. For example if you were looking to gain more followers hailing from an artistic background it would be smart to use the hashtags, #Art, #Pen, #Artist, #creative, #Sketch, #Draw and so on. This is just one example of many on how to properly use a hashtag, doing this will give the user the best chance possible to gain more followers and exposure.
Although hashtags can help boost ones exposure, using too many of them can turn people away from a post. People scrolling through social media typically look for good captions when analyzing a post, I would recommend to stay around five hashtags at the most and avoid having a wall of tags in order to maximize the effectiveness on every post. I believe the hashtag was a great idea and changed the way social media algorithm works indefinitely. Well that is all for this post, see you all on the next one!
